5 years ago, you probably would not have thought about getting fresh groceries delivered to your doorstep. Sure, you’ve seen advertisements of food planning companies like BlueApron or Hello Fresh, but what if you don’t want the mushrooms included in the package? Well, grocery delivery services are here, and it’s for good!

COVID-19's Impact on Grocery Shopping

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen a surge in food delivery services such as UberEats and Grubhub. Two other popular service that have recently emerged is grocery deliveries and curbside pick-ups. People are ordering fresh produce online and having a personal assistant pick them up and either delivering them to their cars or homes.

More space in the stores are being dedicated to online orders and in response to the increase in customer reliance on technology. While technology investments have been underway well before the pandemic, the outbreak has only quickened the development of automation in grocery stores.

After the Pandemic

After this pandemic, we may see a spike in technological advancements, since many are still hesitant about leaving their homes for regular chores. A new sector in online ordering may be created, and perhaps more than just groceries could be delivered in the future.
